Bushehr


Bushehr is a port city which is the capital of Bushehr province locating at west southern part of Iran. It is considered as a peninsular port locating at central part of Bushehr province while it is surrounded by Persian Gulf from north, west and south.


This port is located 18 meters above the sea level through the Persian Gulf’s coast line with humid, hot summers, mild winters and pleasant springs.

 

History of Bushehr port

The primary foundations of Bushehr port have been founded Sassanid Ardeshir. Among the construction records of Ardeshir, many great evidences have indicated to the existence of a strategic port namely “Bokht Ardeshir” which express the mass of Persian Gulf’s importance for the first Sassanid kings.

The great “Bokht Ardeshir” has been connected to Shiraz through a connecting road in order to ship the exporting goods. The current Bushehr has 300 years of historical record which has been founded by the commodore of Nadir Shah Afshar in order to construct a southern port and found the navy.

Business prosperity of this important port have been led to the permission of publishing common banknote of Bushehr which has remained till the existence of Shahi Bank. Bushehr residences were considered as the first Iranians who were familiar with magazines.

 

 

Local economy of Bushehr's people

Fishing plays a major role in the local economy and fresh catch of the day is always available at the Bushehr fish market. The city is famous for its seafood dishes like Qalieh Meigoo and Qalieh Mahi.

 

 

Bushehr is in UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011

Bushehr is one of the centers where Lanj or Lenj boats are built. These small, hand-built wooden boats are used by the inhabitants of southern Iran to sail, trade and fish on the Persian Gulf. The skill of building and sailing these traditional fishing boats was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011.
