Ilam


One of the western Iranian cities and the provincial capital of Ilam, Ilam as an independent city is located through a mountainous region. It is surrounded by Khuzestan province locating in South, Lorestan province locating in east and Kermanshah province locating in north of it while Iraq is also the western neighbor of Ilam province.

Through the Qajar dynasty, Ilam was the summer headquarter of the king calling “Poshtkuh”. In 1927 Poshtkuh has changed to Ilam, the current state name,. As an independent province, Ilam has had its own identity by the separation from Kermanshah.

Through the rich history of Ilam, it was the urbanization state while being the cradle of Iranian culture. Among the Sassanid era, some parts of this specific region was called “pahle” while they were called “Jebal” by Arabs as it was considered as a part of Persian Iraq.

The statistics research of Ilam station declare that January is the coldest month and July is the warmest month throughout the whole year. The specific climate of this western province is severely influenced by the western and southern deserts through the Iranian plateau, as a result it has heavy snows during the winter and warm and dry summers with dust in the air.

The majority of Ilam’s residences are Kurds and as a result, they are speaking through the Ilamin Kurdish language.

Ilam has an awesome nature locating in the vicinity of high mountains. It has been also one of the first world’s regions which has had unified agricultural structures. In order to tribute the agricultural history of Ilam, an agriculture museum has been installed in this scenery city.
